Lakeside World Darts Opens in Frimley Green – The Podcasts

Lakeside DartsYesturday I spent a fair bit of time at the World Professional Darts Championship at Lakeside in Frimley Green.

By any standards this is an incredible event and a real jewel in the Surrey Heath crown.

I captured a lot of footage from the event which I will edit together over the next couple of days.

But I also podcast interviewed Bob & Joanne Potter, nine times ladies world champion Trina Gulliver, Glynn Evans and a really great bunch of lads who have driven all the way from Belgium this morning to soak up the atmosphere of the Darts at Lakeside, and will be driving back tonight.

Bob Potters interview is quite long so I hope to publish that on its own in a day or two.

Here are the podcasts:

Joanne Potter talks about the fantastic Lakeside Country Club – Video blog

Joanne PotterAs the darts finishes in spectacular fashion, it occurred to me that the whole world has had its eyes on Frimley Green for the last week.

I think Bob Potter has done us proud and he is responsible for putting Surrey Heath on the world map and drawing huge numbers of people to our borough which creates employment and other opportunities to the local economy.

In fact Bob Potter and his family have contributed a huge amount to our borough for so many years.

Those who have lived in the area for a long time will know all about the history of Lakeside. But I think some of the more recent residents (like me) may not fully understand the significance of Lakeside.

During the 70’s Lakeside Country Club was the number one entertainment venue in the UK. Just about every major star of that era appeared at Lakeside.

Also Bob Potter has raised fortunes for local charities. In fact only recently he donated £75k to Frimley Park Hospital which compared to how much he has given to local charities over the years is actually a drop in the ocean.

I think his OBE was well deserved and his contribution to Surrey Heath and our community over the years cannot be overstated.

During the darts I was able to interview Cllr Joanne Potter (Bob’s daughter) who told me about some of her fond memories of lakeside Country Club which you can watch here.
