On the 4th July 2015, The Royal Logistic Corps holds its annual open day for the public, local residents, veterans and serving members of the military in Deepcut, Camberley. The event is free and runs all day with stands opening at 9am, the arena events start at 10.30am, with a Party in the Park evening concert starting at 6.30pm!
The day will include interactive military displays demonstrating the six functions of The Royal Logistic Corps; supply, distribution, maritime, ammunition technical services, food services and postal and courier & movement control services. There will also be demonstrations from Commando Logistic Regiment and 11 Explosive Ordnance Disposal Regiment.
The RLC Silver Stars free-fall Parachute display team will be jumping in, and 13 Air Assault Support Regiment will be doing an exciting fire power demonstration. In the main arena the RLC Enduro Motorcycle Display team will be performing stunts and there will also be an equestrian display and vintage military vehicles.
The day will include competitive sporting activities; rugby, football and or course an old favourite, the tug of war. As well as performances by military bands and pipes and drums there will also be live music all day, culminating in a Party in the Park evening concert at 6.30pm.
BAFTA nominated Kajaki: The Movie will also be screened at the Corps Open Day, with members of the cast and crew present for a Q&A session with the public afterwards. The film tells the true story of a small unit of soldiers positioned on a ridge overlooking the Kajaki dam.
The day is a thank you to the local community and serving and retired members of the Corps for their continued support to The Royal Logistic Corps.
The event is free to attend and is a great day out for both kids and adults – with interactive activities and displays for everyone to enjoy. There will be a farmers market, food stalls, bars, real ales and a hog roast. There will also be a funfair, petting zoo and horse and cart rides!
Also attending this years event is Olympian Rebecca Romero, who will be presenting The Royal Logistic Corps Sports Awards. The Sports Awards recognise excellence and sporting achievements by serving members of the Corps. Rebecca is known for being the first British athlete and second woman in history to win Olympic medals in two different sports, in cycling and rowing, at the Summer Olympic Games.
