Regenerated play area opens

Playground croppedA play area in Camberley has been given a new lease of life with some great new facilities for children aged three and upwards.

Comprising swings, see-saw, play frames and multi-activity unit, the upgraded playground in Dawnay Road offers a balance of fun and healthy exercise.  New softer safety surfaces have been added, together with new seating areas and litter bins.

The Mayor of Surrey Heath Councillor Bob Paton and Major General Stuart Skeates CBE, Commandant of the Royal Military Academy officially opened the playground, joined by families and local ward councillors.

The revamped area aims to serve both the military and civilian communities in and around Dawnay Road and Epsom Close, which sit on the boundary with the Royal Military Academy.

The council and the Royal Military Academy worked in partnership to gain funding from the government’s Community Covenant Grant Scheme, as well as in collaboration from the Surrey Police Surrey Heath Neighbourhood Team.

Major General Skeates thanked all the families for attending the opening and braving the inclement weather. He also said: “I am very pleased to see the transformation of this play park and wish to thank everyone that has been involved in its development.”

Cllr Richard Brooks, Town ward councillor for Surrey Heath said: “This is a terrific improvement of the playground that can be enjoyed by children and families. Local residents have been very supportive of the project and I’d like to thank the various organisations involved for working hard to help deliver a fantastic play area for the community.”
