In the past 5 years the number of our bureau volunteers has grown by more than fifty percent, performing many crucial roles including advisers, receptionists, IT, admin workers and trustees. However, during the last year the changes to the benefits system and the increasing difficulty and cost of accessing legal advice have added to the ever present debt problems that people face. This has meant that our service is more vital than ever to ensure people do not suffer because they are not aware of their rights and responsibilities. We anticipate a continual growth in demand for our service and are currently looking for people to join our local team.
Gateway assessors help clients get the right help in the fastest time possible. They assess people’s needs, either face-to-face or over the phone, and identify the most appropriate course of action. That might be self-help information, referral to a specialist organisation or an appointment with a CAB adviser. This role can lead to other opportunities such as generalist or specialist advisers.
As a gateway assessor, you will interview clients, explore their problems, assess the urgency of their situation and identify the next steps that need to be taken. You will need to be open minded, non-judgmental, have basic IT skills and enjoy helping people.
