Camberley has welcomed a wave of new retailer and restaurant lettings, signalling continued growth in the town centre. The recent deals are in-line with the council’s wider vision to rejuvenate and strengthen Camberley’s retail and leisure provision and the vision outlined by the Town Centre Area Action Plan.
Both The Mall Camberley and The Atrium shopping centre have experienced a flurry of new tenants since the start of 2014, which are a welcome addition to the already vibrant town centre. Fashion retailers Deichman, Select, Destiny, You Fashion and Roman Originals have signed up to The Mall, along with Serenity Beauty Salon and Headcase Barbers, which look forward to opening their doors this summer.
Additionally, Standard Life Investments Pooled Pension Property Fund has completed three new lettings at The Atrium. The new tenants Wildwood, Creams Café and Bill’s are all new names to Camberley, bringing their own unique dining experience to the town.
News of the lettings follows the hugely positive response to the public consultation process at the end of last year. Capital & Regional – which own The Mall brand, are exploring the potential of a £100 million investment in the 385,000 sq ft shopping centre, which could include a new town square, improvements to the London Road frontage, refurbishment of The Mall and a new anchor store.
Glen Fulton, General Manager of The Mall Camberley, said: “Camberley has huge potential as an important centre for retail and leisure and we have been working hard to attract new retailers. Not only do we want to make Camberley an even better place for local shoppers in the town, we also want to attract new visitors from surrounding areas and a broader shopping experience will help us achieve this.”
Ed Jenkins, Head of UK Retail at Standard Life Investments, added: “The fact that we have three brand new restaurants opening at The Atrium reaffirms both the Centre and town as a one stop destination for shopping and leisure. These restaurants will complement the existing retail and leisure offer at the Centre and create an ideal place to relax after a busy day of shopping.”
Cllr. Moira Gibson, Leader of Surrey Heath Borough Council commented: “The arrival of these popular new retailers is fantastic news for residents in Camberley and local businesses, who will benefit from the new shoppers that will be attracted by Camberley’s growing offer.
“The addition of the new stores will also help to establish Camberley as a dominant regional shopping destination. The town centre has a number of opportunities for incoming tenants and we are looking at ways to further invest in the future of Camberley to strengthen this demand. We have strong transport links to London and other parts of the region and this boost to the town centre will enable Camberley to remain competitive with regional rivals.”
